Michelangelo's
The Holy Family
Mary's
arm and shoulder are bare and young.
Joseph is old and bald. Jesus is not brand new....
sporting a vigorous head of curly brown hair.
This is not an ordinary painting.
This is a real family.
Lorenzo's
Coronation of the Virgin
Glorious
Technicolor angels' wings
bring to mind Josephs' coat of many colors.
One joyful angel is playing an instrument
that rests upon her knees.
It has a keyboard and pipes. It's an organ!
A holy fellow on the right
dressed in red, blue and green
is casually resting his foot on a low wall
with his knee thrust up.
Michelangelo's
David - Marble 1501
My second time to see
the original in the Academia. I am almost speechless, so I show
you a postcard and a quote from Michelangelo himself.
"With my mother's
milk I sucked in the hammer and chisels I use for my statues."
Michelangelo Buonarroti 1475 - 1564

This you must know...
when you are standing near the sculpture you feel an energy and
realize that all the reproductions and photos you've seen couldn't
possibly prepare you for the power. People stand mesmerized, and
find they are holding their breath. I hope you will see for yourself.
If you do, let me know your response.
